Mike Renn wins race at Wall. Steve Renn wins second straight Championship (Nov 1)

Mike Renn of Medford, NY took down his fourth win of the 2009 season at Wall Stadium on Sunday. He held off a charge from Steve Renn to take the season finale. Steve Renn’s second place finish clinched him his second straight 4C Super Modified Championship.

Steve champ

Heading into this Sunday’s race at Wall Stadium Steve Renn held a 17 point advantage over Mike Renn. The heat race would line up with Steve and Mike on the front row with Bob Renn and Wes Gilbert in row 2. Steve would get the jump on Mike as they ran nose to tail during the heat with Wes Gilbert trailing in third. Steve Renn would win the heat and add 2 points to his lead going into the feature. Steve would have to finish second or better to clinch the win. The lineup for the feature would put Mike Renn on the pole and Steve Renn on the outside. As they came to the green Mike would get the jump on Steve and take the lead with Wes Gilbert sitting back in third. The caution would fly on lap one for a spin by Bob Renn taking him out of the race. Mike would continue to lead but Steve Renn was all over his back bumper. At the checkered it was Mike Renn over Steve Renn with Wes Gilbert coming home third. Mike’s win was not enough to take the championship as he fell 5 points short of Steve Renn who won his second straight championship. Steve is also the first repeat Champion in the history of the 4C Super Modifieds.
