Mike Renn takes opener at Mahoning Valley (May 7)

 

Mike Renn of Medford NY won his first feature of the 2011 racing season. Renn held off defending series Champ Wes Gilbert for the win.

 The 2011 season would start with the first heat race for the new season. Steve Renn and Bob Renn would make up the front row with Mike Renn and Wes Gilbert in the second row. Steve Renn would get the jump with Mike Renn and Wes Gilbert following into second and third. Mike Renn would put pressure on Steve Renn making his move for the lead on the 4th lap. Wes Gilbert would follow to second. Gilbert would put the pressure on Renn for the race lead. With 2 laps to go Gilbert would make a move low off the second turn. They would run side by side to the finish with Wes Gilbert holding off Renn.

This would set up the feature with Bob Renn on pole with Steve Renn to his outside. Steve Renn would get the jump on the start with Bob Renn settling into second. Mike Renn would make the move by Bob Renn on the second lap. On lap 3 Bob Renn would spin to bring out the caution. On the restart Steve Renn would hold the lead with Mike Renn putting pressure on. On lap 7 Mike Renn would get by Steve Renn for the lead. Wes Gilbert would begin to put the pressure on Steve Renn for second. Gilbert would mae the move by to take second. Gilbert would try to real in Renn for the lead but there wasn’t enough laps and Mike Renn would take down the season opening win with Wes Gilbert, Steve Renn and Bob Renn the top 4.

 

The next race will be May 21st at Mahoning Valley Speedway

 

 

Wes Gilbert makes last lap pass to win at Shenandoah and is the 2010 Champion (Oct 2nd)

  

Wes Gilbert of Preston MD, won his 7th Gabrielli Truck Sales 4C Super Modified race at the Shenandoah Speedway. Gilbert also clinched his second series Championship. Gilbert was able to pass Mike Renn on final lap to take win.

 

Qualifying would be determined through time trials. Ron Merlino would set fast time with a time of 16.221, Wes Gilbert would be second fastest with a time of 16.235, Mike Renn 16.283, Steve Renn 16.334, Bob Renn 16.594, Anthony Merlino 17.041 and Harry Weed 19.887 would round out the top 7. This would set up the feature with Ron Merlino and Wes Gilbert in row 1 with Mike Renn and Steve Renn in row 2. Merlino would get the jump at the start and take over the lead. Mike Renn and Steve Renn would get by Gilbert for second and third. The front four would start to dice it up with Mike Renn putting pressure on Merlino for the lead. On lap 6 Steve Renn would spin off of turn 4 to bring out the caution. On the restart Merlino would get the jump on Mike Renn. Renn would battle back on the outside of Merlino and would run side by side for the lead. Gilbert would also be in the mix as he would look low under both. The battle for the lead was intense but on lap 8 Anthony Merlino and Steve Renn would come together off of turn 2 to bring out the caution. On the restart Merlino would go side by side into turn 1 Renn would get sideways and spin in turn 2 collecting Bob Renn and Anthony Merlino to bring out the third caution.. Mike Renn and Anthony Merlino would pull away as Bob Renn went off the track with damage. Ron Merlino would get the jump on the restart with Mike Renn making his way back to second. Renn would go to the outside of Merlino for the lead as Gilbert would look to the inside. The top 3 would battle lap after lap for the lead. Merlino would start to edge out in front of Renn with Gilbert following Merlino. Suddenly Merlino would get loose off of turn 4 and spin with Gilbert sneaking by with Renn. This would setup a green white and checker finish. Gilbert and Renn would go side by side on the restart into the first turn. Gilbert would get loose off of turn two allowing Renn to take over the lead. Renn would take the white flag in the lead. However Gilbert would make a strong run going into turn one and dive under Renn for the lead. Gilbert would clear Renn down the backstretch. Renn would look low off of turn four but it would be Wes Gilbert taking down a record 7th win of the 2010 season and also clinching the 2010 Championship. The 2010 Championship is Wes Gilbert’s second of his career. Gilbert also won the 2004 series title.

 

 

  Wes Gilbert makes last lap pass to sweep 2010 Mahoning Races (Sept 11)

    Wes Gilbert of Preston MD drove to his 6th win of the 2010 season in the Gabrielli Truck Sales 4C Super Modified’s and also swept all the races at the Mahoning Valley Speedway. Gilbert made a thrilling last lap pass on Ron Merlino to take the win. The win also gives Gilbert a 68 point advantage on Mike Renn heading to the last race at the Shenandoah Speedway

                                                             

     The Qualifying heat for the final race for the 2010 season at the Mahoning Valley Speedway would lineup with Bob Renn and Mike Renn on the front row. At the drop of the green the front row would not get going allowing Ron Merlino from his fourth starting spot to grab the lead going into turn 1. Bob Renn would take second with Wes Gilbert following in third. Renn would put the pressure on Merlino as Gilbert and Mike Renn would be battling as well. Bob Renn would get his nose under Merlino but could not make the pass. At the same time Gilbert would be working the outside as Mike Renn would look low. Gilbert would be able to get a run on the outside to take second. At the checkers Merlino would win the heat with Gilbert, Bob Renn, Mike Renn and Steve Renn the top 5. 

 

  This would setup the feature with the front row of Steve Renn and Mike Renn and Bob Renn and Wes Gilbert in row two with Ron Merlino and Anthony Merlino in row three and Mike Crispo and Wayne Merlino in the fourth row. At the drop of the green Steve and Mike Renn would go side by side. Mike Renn would get the advantage and take over the lead on the first lap. Steve Renn would settle for second with Wes Gilbert moving up to third.  The caution would come out for a spin by Bob Renn. On the restart Mike Renn would get the jump on Steve Renn with Wes Gilbert moving into second and Ron Merlino moving into third. Gilbert would start to put the pressure on Renn for the lead with Merlino sitting back in third. Anthony Merlino would also put pressure on Steve Renn for fourth. Gilbert would keep looking low on Renn for the lead with Renn shutting the door. Merlino would make it a three way battle for the lead and start make a run on the outside. With 4 laps to go Merlino would jump to the outside of Renn with Gilbert getting to the inside.. A caution would come out for  Wayne Merlino who lost a water hose. Officials would put Renn back in the lead with Merlino second and Gilbert third. On the restart Merlino would power to the lead on inside bringing Gilbert with him. As they got the white flag Gilbert would make a move to the inside of Merlino going into turn 1 on the final lap. They would run side by side off of turn 2 down into turn 3. Gilbert would be able to get the advantage by half a car coming to the checkers and Wes Gilbert would take the win over Ron Merlino, Mike Renn, Steve Renn, Anthony Merlino, Mike Crispo, Bob Renn and Wayne Merlino the top 8. Gilbert will enter the final race at the Shenandoah Speedway with 68 point lead on Mike Renn.

 

 

 

Wes Gilbert takes 5th win of the year at Wall (August 21st)

         

Wes Gilbert of Preston MD took down his fifth win of the 2010 season in the Gabrielli Truck sales 4C Super Modified's. Gilbert took the lead from Steve Renn on the opening lap and went to take the victory. Gilbert advanced his point lead over Mike Renn to 50 points and 95 points over two time defending Champion Steve Renn

                                                                        

    The Heat race lineup would see Bob Renn and Steve Renn  on the front row with Wes Gilbert and Mike Renn in row two and Mike Langbein and Mike Crispo in row 3. At the drop of green Steve Renn would get the jump and take over the lead. Mike Renn and Wes Gilbert would follow past Bob Renn as well. Mike Renn would put the pressure on Steve Renn for the lead and on lap 4 would make a move low off of turn 2 to take over the lead with Wes Gilbert following into second. Gilbert would put heavy pressure on Renn. Gilbert would look for everyway to get by but Mike Renn would hold on to win the qualifying heat. The feature Lineup would see a front row of Steve Renn and Wes Gilbert with Mike Renn and Bob Renn in row two and Matt Langbein and Mike Crispo in row 3. As they took the green Steve Renn would jump out into the lead. Gilbert would follow going into turn 1. Gilbert would then make a quick move on Renn off of turn 2 and take over the lead going into turn 3. Mike Renn would follow into second. Gilbert would begin to stretch out his lead with the battle being for second as Steve Renn would put pressure on Mike Renn. Bob Renn was also in the mix in fourth. At halfway Gilbert would have a comfortable lead with Steve Renn still looking to take second from Mike Renn. With five laps to go the yellow would come out for spin by Bob Renn off of turn 2. This would set up a 5 lap sprint. On the restart Gilbert would get the jump. Steve Renn would take over the second position going into turn 1. Gilbert however would being to pull away  and at the checkers it would be Wes Gilbert taking down his 5th win of the 2010 season. Steve Renn, Mike Renn, Bob Renn, Matt Langbein and Mike Crispo would be the top 6.
